Writing workshop: creating accurate, effective, empathetic texts

Email, social, messaging and task-organizing apps have multiplied the time needed for writing so dramatically that we often feel that we are working to write instead of writing to work.
If information proliferates, however, we can learn to select the amount of messages to be sent, reducing the time needed for writing.This workshop provides the skills to use writing more effectively, learning how to construct clear, readable and empathetic texts, with a positive impact on communication and relationships.

Methodology

The course alternates between a theoretical part in which elements, tools, and strategies of written communication are explained and a practical part in which you work on your own exercises and texts.

Duration

2-day in-person course or webinar mode.

Goals

  • Acquire the skills to write more effective communications
  • Manage communications with customers, colleagues, employees in the shortest possible time and with less stress
  • Become more aware of what elements make communication work
  • Learning to be precise effective and assertive with writing.

Program

  • How communication works: the 6 functions
  • How to structure sentences, paragraphs, texts
  • Choose the right words, tone, language, and message for your reader
  • Preset responses, workflows, editorials, layout rules: effective procedures for the writer and the reader
  • Attention to graphic aspects and layout for more readable text
  • Writing to be understood and build relationships
  • How to structure a text and place information in the right position.

Building messages that work

  • Gain awareness of what written communication looks like and how it works
  • Learn how to structure, from sentence to paragraph to paratext, texts that work
  • Select which information to convey.

Choosing the right words

  • Learning to identify appropriate language and tone
  • Acquire strategy to defuse conflict through the right words
  • Choose fonts, spaces, sizes to facilitate reading.

Getting your recipient to understand you

  • Putting yourself in your reader’s shoes with empathy
  • Choosing the right channel to communicate
  • Acquire strategies to better manage emails, messages, and projects.
